A maniacal knitter, I lived in London all my life until about 17 years ago when I met my husband while on holiday in Turkey and I've never looked back since, even through adversity. We still live in this richly cultural, beautiful country with our two children. There are so many traditional arts and crafts here, especially created by women, that I barely knew where to start adapting them to my addiction-turned-business ~ Knitting!
About The Knit Box (KB Knitting)
The Knit Box is about yarn and knitting accessories which are uniquely designed or carefully selected from traditional crafts found in Turkey. Living in Golcuk in the Northwest coast of Turkey, meant that we experienced the 1999 earthquake of 7.6 right at the epicentre. Tens of thousands of lives and homes were destroyed. Now, thanks to the Golcuk Art and Culture Centre built by the local municipality, the women in the local community have found a place to express their crafts, talents and arts. KB Knitting has reached out to some of these women to help turn their craft into a means of income.

KB Yarn is produced locally by the Sayan family - nine brothers who uprooted themselves from mystical Mardin to find a living in the bigger city of Izmit (neighbouring Golcuk, it was also hit directly by the earthquake). Each working with yarn and textiles in their own different ways yet with a passion and deep-rooted knowledge for fiber handed down through generations. KB yarn is produced exclusively by the Sayans using the best Turkish cottons. Fair trade and labour applies to all products.
